After reviewing and compiling holds issues, one priority that has been revealed quickly is the delay in filling holds. In attempting to troubleshoot the issue accurately, it has become apparent that we cannot identify the root of the problem until all libraries start filling all holds. We have many unfilled holds. Many of these remain in part because of the holds list display limitation.
We would like to take advantage of the typically slower holiday season by addressing this in December and starting the new year with a clean slate. All libraries will be asked to use their discretion in clearing their list.
If all libraries fill all holds on their holds list, we will be able to discern 3 critical pieces of the puzzle:
1) Are certain libraries and/or regions being asked to fill an inordinate or disproportionate number of holds?
2) Is the stalling setting on Evergreen controlling holds within the region/system correctly?
3) Are title-level holds working correctly?
Every PINES library has an amnesty period of 6 weeks within which you will be asked to fill all of your holds, no questions asked.
• After that period, each library will be asked to fill all of their holds within 24 hours of when the hold was placed as per PINES Policy.
• A report will be run to identify any remaining holds not addressed during the amnesty period.
• If the holds are filled, we will be able to discern very quickly the 3 issues above and correct them as necessary.
As of tomorrow morning, December 12th, you should see the complete list of all holds for your library. It is important that we clean up the holds list so that we can continue to work on issues with holds. Thanks in advance for your support and cooperation on this.
