Scheduled Web Site Maintenance


The GPLS IT staff will be doing web server maintenance on Wednesday, September 9 from 6pm - approximately 9pm. During this time, you may not be able to reach the following:

  • PINES web site
  • GPLS web site
  • Help Desk
  • Library web sites that are hosted by GPLS
  • PINES catalog FAQ and Help page (the PINES catalog will be unaffected, but the FAQ/Help pages reside on the PINES web site)

Upcoming PINES Executive Committee Meeting


The agenda has been posted for the September 2014 PINES Executive Committee Meeting.

At the May 2014 PINES Executive Committee Meeting, the decision was made to reduce paper waste at future meetings by ending the practice of printing out copies of all handouts for all meeting attendees. Meeting attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop to view handouts or to print out relevant handouts in advance.


PINES Patron Database Cleanup and Hardware Upgrade Schedule


Tuesday, August 26 at 5pm - Thursday, August 28 at 6pm

The patron database will be frozen for database cleanup at 5:00 pm. Do not change patron names, addresses, phone numbers, or barcode numbers. You may change patron user names, email addresses, passwords, and expiration dates. Patrons can log in through 'My Account' and change their user names, email addresses, and passwords. You may register new patrons during this time.

Patron Self-Registration / Online Application Form


After the PINES server hardware upgrade is complete, on September 2, 2014, the PINES staff will enable the patron self-registration functionality in the PINES catalog. This will allow new patrons to fill out their library application form online. To complete the registration process, the patrons will need to come into a PINES library to show proof of ID so that the library staff can complete the form and issue the library card.

Burke County Libraries Moving from East Central Georgia to Greater Clarks Hills


On July 1, 2014, the three libraries in Burke County will switch from East Central Georgia Regional Library System to Greater Clarks Hills Regional Library System:

East Central Georgia Regional Library Name Change


On July 1, 2014, East Central Georgia Regional Library System will change their name to Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System.


Their PINES shortname will change from ECGR to ARCPLS.

PINES Training Opportunities in Athens


Registration is now open for two classes in Athens:

  • "Introduction to Cataloging Concepts for Non-Catalogers" on August 13
    (Please note that this was originally August 6 but has been rescheduled to August 13.)
  • "Original Cataloging Training with RDA" on August 27-28
