PINES Annual Meeting 2009

The 2009 PINES Annual Meeting will be held at the Office of Information and Instructional Technology (OIIT) in Athens on May 19 and 20.  Tuesday, May 19 will be a day of training and seminars followed by the PINES Annual Meeting and the PINES Executive Committee Meeting on Wednesday, May 20.  Information about the facility and training opportunities, including links to event registration, follow.

Each classroom has 16 student workstations and power/Ethernet ports for laptop computers.  None of the trainings we are offering will require personal computers, but we will have them on and available.

PINES Bibliographic Database Cleanup

An overview of the issues involved with the quality of PINES bibliographic data and details of cleanup best practices and procedures that can be handled on a local library level.  This will include a preview of a proposed PINES database cleanup project that is currently in development. PINES Local Admin - Part II

Building on the foundations of (and including a brief review of) the basic PINES Local Admin training, this training will include basic information about the structure of the Evergreen database, which underlies the functionality of the reports module, and will include a portion for Q & A and open discussion of PINES Local Admin related issues. Limit 40 participants.

PINES Team Q & A Session

This is a session for questions and answers with regard to the Evergreen software and PINES policies.  It will include an overview of current approaches to Evergreen development and will be an open discussion for PINES policy and procedure questions, and new directions toward which the PINES consortium can be moving.  Limit 80 participants.

How to be a PINES Millionaire (The PINES Game Show)

This session will be a trivia oriented game show focusing on the Evergreen software, PINES policies, and PINES history. There will be prizes!  We will break participants up in teams.  You only need to register if you plan to participate in the game. Limit 80 participants.

Basic Subject Cataloging with LCSH

This is a training in advanced cataloging for PINES original catalogers; it will

  • Provide attendees with an understanding of principles and practices of LCSH
  • Teach general skills in constructing and evaluating subject headings
  • Interpret OCLC Authority File
  • Hands-on Practice (time permitting)
