Testers of the Evergreen software will sometimes be asked to download and install a newer version of the Staff Client alongside the version PINES is currently running. These instructions are for setting up a staff client for a test server without interfering with day-to-day work.
Please note: these instructions require Windows administrative rights and the Evergreen permission to create a Workstation, so please coordinate this with your local IT administrators.
Another note: We would recommend only installing this test client on machines that are not required for normal workday tasks. If you have a spare station with a scanner and receipt printer, that would be ideal.
In short, here's what you need to do:
- Download the version of the staff client being tested: http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/evergreen-setup-2.1.1.exe (note that this is the generic Evergreen staff client - we will be providing a PINES-specific version as we get closer to go-live).
- When installing, ensure that the new staff client will not overwrite the existing staff client. Do this by making sure that the Destination Folder is named "Evergreen Staff Client 2.1". Note that newer Evergreen clients do this by default.
- Set up the Profile Manager on each of the icons/links for each installed staff client (instructions here: http://pines.georgialibraries.org/pines/creating-evergreen-workstation-profiles). Name the new profile "Testing 2.1". This ensures that data from one version does not conflict with data from another version you're using.
- Name the testing staff client's icon in such a way that it's clear to staff members which client to use for daily work. The icon is a slightly different color, so this should be pretty clear.
- Enter "new.gapines.org" as the hostname. Use your "real" username and password from PINES (as of December 2, 2011) to log in.
- When initially logging in, click Add SSL Exception and follow the steps to accept the self-signed certificate.
- Make sure to set the profile back to "default" when starting the 1.6.1.8 staff client to do normal work.
Please email the PINES-Testing-L email list if you have any questions about this.
