The Heartbleed Bug

There has been a lot in the media this week about the "Heartbleed" bug (see http://heartbleed.com/ for detailed information) and how it may have compromised personal information, including usernames and passwords.

The GPLS PINES staff have checked all PINES servers and have have applied all security patches as they have become available. We will continue to do so, since information security is our highest priority.

We highly recommend that all PINES library patrons and staff change their passwords frequently as a regular practice and to choose strong passwords (see http://www.wikihow.com/Choose-a-Secure-Password for examples). If you have not changed your password since Wednesday, April 9 , please do so as soon as possible.
