AT&T's Atlanta Internet hub that services many of Georgia's libraries is out of service and their techs are currently working to restore access. GPLS's IT team is on the phone with AT&T and will inform us if they receive any time estimate of how long it will take to restore service.

Update, 4:30 pm:

AT&T has resolved their Internet service problems and the affected libraries should be able to access the Internet now.

There has been a lot in the media this week about the "Heartbleed" bug (see http://heartbleed.com/ for detailed information) and how it may have compromised personal information, including usernames and passwords.

Registration is now open for the June 18-19 PINES Mini-Conference in Carrollton, GA.

Registration is now available for a one-day class at the Leesburg Library on May 28, 2014 introducing "Cataloging Concepts for Non-Catalogers."

At the end of the session, attendees should have a better understanding of what cataloging is, cataloging standards, and how those standards create the OPAC record. They should be able to look at an OPAC record and understand how it got there, better understand search results, know a little cataloging jargon, and to be able to troubleshoot issues with search retrieval and bibliographic records.

The schedule and registration form are now available for the PINES Annual Membership Meeting and Executive Committee Meeting on May 12th-14th (just prior to the Directors' Meeting on the 15th-16th).

PINES, in cooperation with a group of other Evergreen systems throughout the country, is currently in negotiations with Equinox Software, Inc. to fund the complete development of a new, web-based version of the Evergreen Staff Client. As you may have heard us mention in previous discussions, the current staff client makes heavy use of Mozilla's xulrunner technology.

GPLS and PINES are pleased to announce that we will move forward with our subscription to NoveList Select on behalf of all public libraries. See the NoveList press release below.  Our subscription will begin on July 1, 2014.  Chris Sharp, PINES System Administrator, will work with all libraries to facilitate the implementation of this resource.  PINES libraries will not need to do anything.  We will be in touch with all others to get contact information for how to implement this in your catalogs.
